Le Corsaire - colorful ballet on the theme of Mediterranean pirates adventures. The ballet is based on George Byron's poem of the same name, composed in 1814. The first performance took place on 23 January 1856 at the Opéra national de Paris. In Russia, "Le Corsaire" was staged for the first time by  famous choreographer Marius Petipa. For more than a hundred years  this fascinating story about pirates and beautiful slaves doesn’t leave  Russian and world stages. But during his long life ballet experienced lots of changes: appeared and disappeared choreographical and musical items, changed plotlines, in Soviet years the ballet lost much of its entertainment because of social reasons. Musical theatre’s staging  returns ballet  to its roots - to the entertaining spectacular action, full of various dances.
