Fokin-Gala: evening of choreography of Mikhail Fokin

Production by Ekaterina Kovaleva

Mikhail Fokin was a groundbreaking Russian choreographer and dancer who laid the foundation for development of ballet art of the  XX century, combining, according to his own words, "a natural skill with art, spirituality with virtuosity". He believed that "beauty was the ideal for humanity at all times". The world's treasury of choreography includes such diverse performances as "Les Sylphides" (Chopiniana), "Petrushka", "Scheherazade" and "The Firebird", "Egyptian Nights", "Dying swan" and "Le Spectre de la Rose".

It’s the first time when Musical theatre presents the heritage of Mikhail Fokin as an evening of his choreography. The evening program includes a one-act ballet "Les Sylphides", choreographic miniatures "Spectre de la Rose" and "Dying Swan", adagio from the ballet "Scheherazade", choreographic suite "The Fairy Garden of Naina" from the opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila" – all works mostly without plot. It gives the possibility to enjoy the art of pure dance.

All artists of the ballet troupe will take part in the performance. Solo parts will be presented by Alevtina Mukhortikova, Yuki Okotie, Yuka Idzumi, Antonina Volgina, Arthur Baranov, Motoya Araki.

The director of this program Ekaterina Kovaleva (St. Petersburg) has repeatedly worked with the troupe of the Musical theatre and noticed the desire of artists not just to work, but to create.

This evening will bring great joy to all lovers of choreographic art as the performances of Mikhail Fokin became true classics of Russian and world ballet.
